Women at Ground Zero, Portraits by Joyce Benna
(posted 3-22-07)
Our latest exhibit is a collection of black and white portraits by local photographer Joyce Benna. The portraits, collectively titled "Women at Ground Zero", show some of the first responders to the 9/11 terrorist attack on the World Trade Center. The photos capture the beauty, strength, sadness & determination of these ordinary, yet remarkable, women, and are captioned with some of their thoughts about the event. The photographs and the women's stories are also featured in the book "Women at Ground Zero, Stories of Courage and Compassion" by Susan Hagen and Mary Carouba.
Joyce Benna is an extremely talented photographer, who seems to capture the essence of people and objects with equal ease. You can see more of her work, or contact her to arrange for a portrait, at her website, http://www.jbenna.com.
A reception to view Joyce Benna's work and meet the artist will be held on Sunday, April 22 from 3 to 8 pm. This exhibit and reception is part of the Piedmont Avenue Merchant's Association Tulip & Arts Festival. Merchants all along Piedmont Ave are exhibiting artwork and holding receptions during the month of April. Refer to the Piedmont Avenue Neighborhood Improvement League (PANIL) website for more information about this event.
