Looking Ahead to September

September is almost upon us, and Inside Outside Fitness is busy behind the scenes preparing exciting changes for our fall season.

First, beginning on September 1, Inside Outside Fitness will expand its hours on weeknights and weekends. Our new hours will be:

  • Monday through Thursday - 6 am to 9 pm,
  • Friday - 6 am to 8 pm,
  • Saturday & Sunday - 7 am to 6 pm.

Second, we will be adding lots of new classes to the fall schedule. I've been having a great time meeting, interviewing & auditioning some terrific new instructors. Here's a sample of what you can look forward to:

  • Intro to Aikido - Japanese martial art focuses on using your opponent’s energy to control them. It emphasizes motion & the dynamics of movement. - Tuesday at 7:50 pm, and Sunday at 3:00 pm with new instructor Philip Huang
  • Yoga - More classes focusing on flexibility, breath control, posture & relaxation. Special emphasis is placed on safety & on meeting individual needs & abilities. - Monday at 10:40 am with Sylvia, Sunday at 9:20 with Deborah Bowen, in addition to our current class on Wednesday at 9:30 am with Sylvia
  • Pre/Post Natal Fitness - This class helps mothers-to-be & new mothers cope with the changes of pregnancy. Combines pregnancy-safe cardio, strength & flexibility movements. Babies welcome! - Tuesday & Thursday at 10 am with Andrea
  • Body Sculpting - After a brief warm-up, this class works all of the major muscle groups using weights, bands, body bars & other equipment - Tuesday & Thursday at 11 am with Andrea
  • Teen Circuit - Specifically for teen-agers, this class combines various types of cardio conditioning with weight training. Stresses good form & low weight levels to keep developing joints & ligaments healthy. A great introduction to lifelong fitness. - Tuesday, Thursday & Saturday at 4 pm with Sasha & Lisa
  • Cardio Dance - Travel the world of dance & raise a healthy sweat.  Our instructors mix it up with a variety of styles. - Tuesday at 6:40 pm & Sunday at 4:30 pm with new instructor Joanna Arhon, in addition to the current class on Thursday at 5:30 pm with Letti
  • Mat Pilates - The core strengthening exercises of pilates, done here without fancy machines, strengthen your entire torso, reduce your likelihood of injury & improve your posture. - Wednesday at 6:40 pm with new instructor Judy Simons
  • Kickbox - A high-energy workout where you punch & kick your way to fitness. - Monday at 5:30 pm with new instructor Shirley Moore
  • Outside Edge - A fun & social outdoor class.  Combines running and interval work with calisthenics to build endurance & strengthen muscles. This class can move indoors to our weight room during especially inclement weather.  Times still to be determined, with new instructors Justin Landry and Mike Siclari

I hope you're as excited about these new classes as I am!

Third, don't panic, but there will be a rate restructuring and fee increase. I'm sticking with the basic rate structure - the option to buy single- or multiple-session passes or an unlimited pass, with no enrollment fees. But I'm consolidating the number of membership offerings. And since rates have not been raised for the past five years, utility bills alone dictate the need for a rate increase.

Here are the rates that will take effect on September 1, 2006:

  • Single Session Pass - $15
  • Ten Session Pass, good for three months - $90
  • Three Month Unlimited Pass - $275
  • One Year Unlimited Pass - $800

Seniors, students or multiple family members are eligible for a 10% discount on these rates.

As a thank you to the many loyal (& fit) members of Inside Outside Fitness, until December 1 all current members can make a single renewal of whatever type of membership they now enjoy - at the old rates!

Finally, for those who are addicted to exercise, Inside Outside Fitness will be open from 9 am to noon on all holidays. Regular classes will be suspended on holidays, but in their place we'll hold a special Blitz class.

We'll be open from 9 am to noon on Monday, September 4, and a I'll be holding a Labor Day Blitz class from 9:30 to 11:00 am. This class includes a half hour of cardio in the movement room, a half hour of circuit training in the weight room, and a final half hour of sculpting and stretching back in the movement room. Celebrate Labor Day with all or part of this class, or come do your own routine and see your friends at Inside Outside Fitness.
